An AI business name generator and domain store, launched in 8 weeks

We built an AI-powered business name generator in 8 weeks, along with a custom page builder. It let the content team publish new pages on the website to grow their SEO without waiting on developers. We later made it a domain store, where users could sign up, add domains to a cart, and check out in their own currency.

The situation

Before we started

The client's website growth ran on search (SEO). Hundreds of landing pages each targeted a different kind of business. But every one of those pages was hand-coded.

A developer had to copy an existing page's HTML and edit it by hand. Even a small wording change went through the same process. So the content team's list of pages to publish kept growing while it waited for developer time.

They needed a platform the content team could grow on its own i.e. put a page together, fill in the content, set its SEO details, and publish it, all without touching code. And it had to stay fast!

The challenge

What made it hard

  • Flexibility

The page builder had to be configurable enough for any page the content team might need, without breaking the layout or drifting off-brand.

  • Performance

Pages assembled by the content team from any mix of blocks still had to load fast enough to hold their search rankings.

  • Deadline

The page builder, the name generation flow, the blog engine, and domain search all had to go from zero to live in 8 weeks.

  • Extensibility

The site had to launch without e-commerce, but be built so that authentication, a cart, and payments could be added later without starting over.

The Solution

What we built

We built the platform from scratch, with a CMS at its core that handled everything from landing pages to blog posts. Everything users and the content team needed went live within 8 weeks

Once the platform was up and running, we built the store on top of it without reworking what was already there.

01

Block-Based Page Builder

The content team could create a landing page by stacking pre-built blocks and filling in each one's content. Any combination of blocks scored 90+ on Google's Lighthouse test out of the box.

02

Name Generation Experience

We built the full name generation flow. Users described their business, set rules like a language or a word to include, and got a list of name ideas to explore. They could save favourites and return to them later.

03

Name Toolkit

Picking a name opened a set of tools around it, like trademark checks, social handle availability, and matching domains. We also added a tagline generator that suggested eight taglines for the chosen name.

04

Domain Search

For users who already had a name, we built a domain search powered by a custom algorithm. It combines the name with extensions like .com and adds prefixes and suffixes to show options worth buying.

05

Blog Engine

The content team could write and publish posts with a rich text editor, manage multiple authors, and handle everything without a developer.

06

E-Commerce

After launch, we turned the site into a store. Users could sign up, add several domains to a cart synced across devices, choose how many years to register each one, and check out in their own currency.

The result

Where it got them

The platform went live in 8 weeks. The content team went on to publish over 150 new pages for SEO on their own, without waiting on developers. A wording change that once needed a developer became a quick edit, and every page was fast enough out of the box to hold its own in search.

The developers got their time back for product work instead of copying HTML. And users could start either way: generate a name from scratch, or bring one they already had and search for matching domains.

Because the foundation was built for it, adding the store later didn't mean starting over. Users who found the right domain could buy it right on the site, in their own currency.

We worked with Wellerman to overhaul our website into an e-commerce ready platform and implement a CMS that enabled our team to manage and update content.

The first phase of the project was successfully shipped in just 8 weeks, and they genuinely cared about the success of the product.
