A fully customisable KYC flow, live in just 6 weeks
AiPrise (YC S22) handles KYC and KYB for fintechs, banks, and crypto platforms, but its end-user verification form was static, with the same steps for every customer. We rebuilt it so each customer could choose its own steps, set rules within each one, and theme the entire flow to match its brand.

The situation
Before we started
AiPrise (YC S22) handles global KYC and KYB for regulated businesses like fintechs, banks, payment gateways, and crypto platforms. The verification flow their end users went through was a hardcoded form.
Each of their customers needed different information from the people signing up, yet they all got the same screens, in the same order, with the same look. Customers had no way to change it.
Integrating was also slow and took several days. Customers had to generate a session through the API, embed it in an iframe, and configure camera and other permissions for their own stack.
The challenge
What made it hard
- Flexibility
Every customer needed to collect different data, but the form had one fixed set of steps.
- Branding
The flow ran inside customers' own apps, so it had to look like their product, not a third-party widget.
- Languages
End users were spread across dozens of countries, so the flow had to work in 20+ languages.
- Compatibility
Selfie and liveness checks had to work on low-end Android phones with weak cameras and patchy networks.
The Solution
What we built
We rebuilt the onboarding flow from scratch as a set of building blocks. Each customer picks the modules they need, sets how each one behaves, and themes the whole flow to match their brand, all without asking AiPrise for a change.
The KYC version went live in 6 weeks. We later extended it to KYB and added drop-in SDKs so customers could integrate it in minutes.
01
Flow Builder
Customers assemble their own verification flow from premade modules like contact details, ID documents, and selfie checks. They can also write their own custom questions and fields.
02
Per-Module Controls
Each module has its own settings. A customer can make email required, turn liveness detection on or off, or record video during the selfie step, all without reaching out to AiPrise.
03
Theme Engine
Customers can set light or dark mode, brand colours, fonts, font sizes, border radius, and the style of inputs and buttons. The flow ends up looking like a native part of their product.
04
20+ languages
The entire flow is localised, so end users can verify themselves in their own language wherever they are.
05
Integration SDKs
We made drop-in components for web, React Native, and Flutter. Customers install the package, place the button, and they're live. Like a "Sign in with Google" button.
06
KYB support
When AiPrise expanded into business verification, we added KYB sections to the same flow, covering beneficial owner details and legal documents.
The result
Where it got them
The first KYC version went live in 6 weeks. From then on, customers could shape the flow around their own requirements and brand without waiting on AiPrise, and with the SDKs, integration went from days to under 60 seconds.
When AiPrise moved into KYB, the same flow grew to support it instead of being rebuilt.
Along the way, we helped AiPrise build its engineering team, from hiring its first five engineers to leading a team of ten.
The first thing we needed for our KYC platform was an onboarding flow. Wellerman built it in 6 weeks.
The hardest piece of it was the camera, which had to work on low-end Android phones with weak cameras and bad networks. They worked through it device by device.
If I were starting something new, they would be my first call.

If we're not the right fit, we'll say so.
